To figure out your pond liner size: Take your measurements: Maximum width, Maximum length, and Maximum depth. Now take your maximum depth and multiply this number by 2. Take this figure and add 2 for your overhang (this is counted as 1' for each side multiplied by 2). Add your total to your maximum width and the same number to your maximum length. You will likely need to round up to match one of the pre-cut liner sizes.

Here is an example: Maximum width = 5'   Maximum length = 10'   Maximum depth = 2.5'  (2 x's 2.5' = 5' + 2 = 7)  (7 + 5 = 12' width) (7 + 10 = 17' length) So you would need a liner close to 12' x 17' and the closest would be 15' x 20'. You could also backfill, re-measure, and see if you can get your measurements to 10' x 15'.

Pond Liners, Stream Liners, and Underlayment for Decorative Ponds and Water Gardens

Welcome to our comprehensive guide on pond liners, stream liners, and underlayment materials designed to create beautiful and durable decorative ponds and water gardens. These essential products ensure the longevity and safety of your aquatic environment, providing a solid foundation for your pond or water garden project.

About Pond Liners

Pond liners are a critical component in pond construction, acting as a barrier to prevent water from seeping into the ground. Our range of fish-safe pond liners ensures that your pond retains water effectively while providing a safe environment for fish and aquatic plants. Whether you are constructing a small garden pond or a large water garden, our liners offer durability and reliability.

Types of Pond Liners

There are several types of pond liners available, each with its own unique properties and benefits. Choosing the right liner for your project depends on various factors, including the size and shape of your pond, budget, and specific requirements.

45mil EPDM Rubber Liners

EPDM (Ethylene Propylene Diene Monomer) rubber liners are a popular choice for pond construction due to their flexibility, durability, and resistance to UV radiation. These liners can withstand extreme temperatures and are highly resistant to punctures and tears. EPDM liners are also fish-safe, making them an excellent option for koi ponds and water gardens. Only choose 45 mil for the most durable liners.

Benefits of Using Pond Liners

Using a high-quality pond liner offers several benefits that contribute to the overall success and longevity of your pond or water garden project.

Water Retention

The primary function of a pond liner is to retain water, preventing it from seeping into the ground. This ensures that your pond remains full and maintains a stable water level, which is essential for the health of fish and aquatic plants.

Durability

Pond liners are designed to withstand various environmental conditions, including UV exposure, temperature fluctuations, and physical wear. A durable liner will provide long-term protection and reduce the need for frequent repairs or replacements.

Fish Safety

Our fish-safe pond liners are free from harmful chemicals and are designed to create a safe and healthy environment for fish and other aquatic life. Ensuring the safety of your pond inhabitants is a top priority in pond construction.

Stream Liners

Stream liners are used to create artificial streams and waterfalls, adding dynamic elements to your pond or water garden. These liners are similar to pond liners but are specifically designed to handle flowing water and the unique shapes of streams and waterfalls.

Features of Stream Liners

Stream liners share many of the same features as pond liners but are tailored to meet the demands of flowing water and complex water features.

Flexibility

Stream liners are highly flexible, allowing them to conform to the irregular shapes and contours of streams and waterfalls. This flexibility ensures a tight seal and prevents water from escaping.

Durability

Like pond liners, stream liners are built to withstand environmental stressors, including UV radiation and temperature changes. They are also resistant to punctures and tears, ensuring long-lasting performance.

Ease of Installation

Stream liners are easy to install, making it simple to create beautiful and functional water features. Whether you are a professional landscaper or a DIY enthusiast, our stream liners provide a user-friendly solution for your project.

Underlayment for Ponds and Water Gardens

Underlayment is an essential component in pond construction, providing a protective layer between the ground and the pond liner. This material helps prevent punctures and extends the life of your liner by providing additional support and cushioning.

Benefits of Using Underlayment

Using underlayment in your pond or water garden project offers several advantages that contribute to the overall durability and performance of your liner.

Protection from Sharp Objects

Underlayment helps protect the pond liner from sharp objects such as rocks, roots, and debris that may be present in the ground. This added layer of protection reduces the risk of punctures and tears, ensuring the integrity of your liner.

Cushioning

Underlayment provides cushioning, which helps distribute the weight of water and any decorative elements placed in the pond. This cushioning effect prevents the liner from becoming stressed or damaged over time.

Extended Liner Life

By providing an additional layer of protection, underlayment extends the life of your pond liner, reducing the need for repairs or replacements. This long-term protection is especially important for larger ponds and water gardens.

Choosing the Right Underlayment

When selecting underlayment for your pond or water garden, consider the following factors:

Material

Underlayment is typically made from non-woven geotextile fabric, which is durable and resistant to degradation. This material provides excellent protection and support for your pond liner.

Thickness

The thickness of the underlayment should be chosen based on the specific needs of your project. Thicker underlayment offers greater protection and is recommended for larger or more complex installations.

Size

Ensure that the underlayment is large enough to cover the entire area of your pond or water garden. It should be installed without any gaps or overlaps to provide continuous protection for the liner.

Installation Tips for Pond Liners and Underlayment

Proper installation of pond liners and underlayment is crucial for achieving a successful and long-lasting pond or water garden. Follow these tips to ensure optimal results:

Preparing the Site

1. Clear the area of any sharp objects, debris, and vegetation that could damage the liner or underlayment.

2. Excavate the pond or water garden area to the desired shape and depth, ensuring smooth and even surfaces.

3. Create ledges or shelves for plants and decorative elements if desired.

Installing Underlayment

1. Lay the underlayment fabric over the entire pond area, including the walls and any ledges or shelves.

2. Smooth out any wrinkles or folds to ensure a flat and even surface.

3. Trim any excess underlayment material to fit the shape of the pond.

Installing the Pond Liner

1. Place the pond liner over the underlayment, ensuring it covers the entire pond area.

2. Smooth out any wrinkles or folds and adjust the liner to fit the shape of the pond.

3. Anchor the edges of the liner with rocks or other heavy objects to keep it in place.

4. Fill the pond with water, allowing the liner to settle and conform to the pond’s shape.

Adding Finishing Touches

1. Once the liner is in place and the pond is filled with water, trim any excess liner material.

2. Add decorative elements such as rocks, plants, and waterfalls to enhance the appearance of your pond or water garden.

3. Install any necessary filtration, circulation, or aeration systems to maintain water quality.
